Great Grandparent to Eric and Michael McCallum of Whitman, Emma Conley of Whitman, Will, Oliver and Emilia O’Hara of Carver.
Jennie leaves behind a life-long best friend and centenarian Rosa Romanowski.
Johanna, or Janina or most lovingly known by her American name “Jennie” emigrated to the US by ship through Ellis Island, NY in 1951 with her husband Joseph, and 4 children Anna, Marie and twins Wanda and Philip and then by train to South Station Boston and settled in the West End of Boston near the North End which included a Polish community. Later settling in North Quincy, Ma, where she was a lifelong resident.
Early years In America were difficult. Learning the language was a challenge, as was finding a job. Jennie and Joseph worked hard to begin new life in Boston and raise and devote themselves to their family of 5. Jennie was known to love music and hummed or sang along to songs heard on radio while doing housework, cooking etc. She was quite talented and could sew from scratch, could whip up a sweater or most anything with her crochet hook or knitting needles. Also a great “project leader and helper” if any one of her family needed help or assistance on the many projects throughout the years. She also had a “green thumb” and her front yard was the envy of her street, neighbors often stopping to comment on the beautiful flowers.
To her grandchildren and great grandchildren she was known as Babci, Bubi and similar loving names. Jennie would make the best Polish dishes, and holidays at her house were filled with love and happiness. Jennie’s eldest granddaughter Susanne enjoyed and shared a “tease” her Bubi who would always say “No Monkey Business” and they had fun with it throughout the
years.
She also helped out with the grandchildren and later great grandchildren, picking them up at school if needed, cheering them on at baseball, soccer games, attending dance recitals, even bicycling with them, loving every minute. Babci made our lives more fulfilled and happier just by being maround us! Bubi you are already sorely missed!
